Greetings, traveler seeking information on Libertas,

Libertas is a vibrant public Minecraft survival server with an Ancient or Medieval Aesthetic spanning numerous cultures. A lush, hand-drawn custom map provides the foundation for a realistic, player-driven economy.

Role-Play:
Explore to discover civilizations built by other players. Join a faction for collaboration and protection. Create a backstory for your works and learn the histories of other players.

Economy:
Through plugins, Libertas has a diamond-based currency and player-made shops, creating a player-driven economy. Paying attention to natural supply and demand, players fix their own prices to trade with each other (villager trading is blocked).

Aesthetic:
Libertas is committed to reflecting the styles of the Ancient or Medieval worlds, with a fantasy twist as only Minecraft can deliver. All structures should fit this aesthetic and be relatively realistic.

Back-end:
Hosted on a professional-grade virtual private server with dedicated ram, Libertas boasts over 98% uptime, with active and accessible admins and moderators. Libertas is committed to providing a stable environment, believing that security promotes growth. Carefully curated plugins are implemented with extensive bug testing to augment vanilla Minecraft and promote healthy community in gameplay.

Welcome to Minecraft!

If you are completely new to Minecraft we ask that you read through the helpful New Player tutorials over at minecraftwiki.net. They are well-done, and will help you understand the basics of how the game works, what you can do, and what you should not do.

In general, the wiki is your best resource for how any game mechanic works. Many of us know a lot about the game and are willing to help answer questions, but don’t be surprised or offended if we simply say “check the wiki.” It often explains things better and more accurately than we can.

Now that you understand the game, there are some things you should know about the server. Please read the next section.

Welcome to the Server!

First, we recommend that you read this entire website (excluding posts). It is small, and will give you a lot of important information. At the very least review the Rules, Server Plugins, and World Map pages.

Our server has some important deviations from Vanilla Minecraft.

1. The terrain was hand-painted instead of being generated naturally. This map was designed in WorldPainter and then imported into the server world such that it’s surface and sea level are 10 blocks below the naturally-occurring surrounding area, which is currently a huge ocean biome. You are welcome to explore beyond the edge of the map, but no permanent structures should be built there. That area may be deleted and regenerated at any time, with little or no warning.

2. To protect this beautiful custom terrain and prevent griefing, Creeper explosions and Wither block-breaking and explosions are disabled.

3. Our server was painted and started before Minecraft 1.3. Thus, any generated features or structures added after that update may not exist on our map, notably Desert Temples, Jungle Temples, Emerald Ore, and Witch Huts.

4. This server employs Factions to simulate nations, countries, and realms. Factions can claim land to prevent non-members from building there and protect their structures and resources. PvP is blocked for members of the same faction and for allies. Players not in a faction are not protected. Some factions are recruiting and some are not – ask members and faction moderators to find out what their application policy might be. Starting your own faction is expensive but very rewarding! If you do, be sure to talk to the other factions to work out peace and trade treaties. For specifics on how the faction plugin works, see the Server Plugins page.

5. Faction (national) boundaries are not limited entirely to claimed land. Borders drawn on the World Map should be respected unless you are willing to go to war. Building, mining, or any removing or placing of blocks in the territory of a faction where you are not a member, while legal per server rules, is illegal according to most factions, and will cause repercussions. Domain in the Overland includes the corresponding chunks in the Nether. The End is considered an international resource overseen by the factions Ancelstierre, Dragonsworn, and Noetheria, who sent the delegates that slew the dragon; any harvesting should maintain the natural curves of the End land, and not interfere with the safety or look of the End.

6. New players will arrive at Spawn. Watch your step. This is a Safe Zone with no PvP or monsters. If you would like to colonize instead of joining a current faction, we ask that you pick a spot on the map and go there – anywhere not marked off for another faction is fine – and not build close to spawn. Talk to people online and they can give you advice on where to build.

7. If you need help or don’t understand something, please ask someone! The community tends to be generous and friendly. We are happy you found us and hope you contribute great things to our community and world!

Welcome to Libertas!
